I do a ton of cinematic horror sound design, and I own a ton of sample packs from various creators/developers. However, the Dark Atmosphere Bundle by Ghosthack far outshines some of the other offerings on the market that fall into this particular vein of sound design and that are catered towards the average consumer of sample packs. (I am obviously not counting the high-end, big-budget, cinematic libraries that cost hundreds and hundreds of dollars that are geared strictly towards working media industry professionals. Those are entirely different behemoths altogether.) — The crafting of the sample content in this bundle is genuinely impressive and smart, as evidenced by the creators having exercised enough foresight to leave more than enough room for additional processing and editing if you really want to push boundaries and go beyond simply just dropping in raw samples. (I do wish that the sample content would've been offered in a higher sample rate such as 96kHz or 192kHz for those of us who really dive deep into manipulating speed and pitch for sound design.) With that said, the raw samples themselves are absolutely useful as-is. You can build a sinister sense of apprehension instantly with minimal effort. — Browsing through all four of the packs and auditioning various individual samples to layer together can become a fun bit of practice, especially if you're new to the process of suspenseful sound design. The sample content overall encourages experimentation to see what fits; and you never really know when you will be hit with a magical moment of inspiration to conjure up some deep, dark, dire terror while browsing the abyssal depths of the four included packs.
